Locate Spawn Zones and Need Zones

Back to documentation contents

This chapter is part of our “the hunter call of the wild cheats” guide. The tool provides read-only save analysis and does not offer cheats or modify game data.

Feature Objective

Use explicit identifiers in the save to answer:

  • Which active unit does this animal belong to?
  • Which spawn zone is bound to that active unit?
  • Which feeding, drinking, and resting areas does it explicitly reference?
  • Which activity period contains the current game time?
  • How far is the profile's last position from the associated area?

This feature does not provide animals' real-time coordinates and does not infer locations from nearby coordinates or same-species distributions.

1. Understand the Two Area Types

Spawn Zones

  • Data source: the DECA game-resource snapshot built into the desktop app;
  • Matching field: SpawnAreadId of the active unit in the save;
  • Meaning: an area constraining where the active unit spawns and operates;
  • Does not represent: an animal's real-time location, a need zone, or an area discovered by the player.

Need Zones

  • Data source 1: need zones discovered in the save;
  • Data source 2: all potential areas in the DECA data built into the desktop app;
  • Matching field: NeedZonePathGuids of the active unit;
  • Types: feeding, drinking, and resting;
  • Does not mean: the animal is necessarily inside that area.

2. Prepare the Target Animal

  1. Go to Map.
  2. Select a reserve.
  3. Select a species.
  4. Use sex, notable-animal, fur, or sorting controls in the animal records on the right to narrow the results.
  5. Click the target animal.
  6. Confirm that the individual record shows active-unit and schedule information.

Animals in the same active unit usually share SpawnAreadId and need-zone paths, so selecting another member of the same group may produce the same area results.

3. Locate the Spawn Zone

Standard Procedure

  1. Select the target animal.
  2. Click Spawn Zones at the top right of the map; you can also click the spawn-zone button in the individual record.
  3. Wait for the spawn-zone grid to load.
  4. Check the area count at the top left of the map.
  5. Find the complete irregular area highlighted in gold or another highlight color.
  6. Hover over the highlighted area to inspect its area number and grid information.
  7. Expand Spawn Zone Explanation below the map to confirm the match result.

Matching Logic

The app performs an exact match:

Save SpawnAreadId
→ Convert to an unsigned 32-bit number
→ Compare with the DECA spawn-zone keys for the current reserve and species
→ Highlight the exactly matching area

Successful Result

A successful result usually shows:

  • Active-unit number;
  • Matching AREA number;
  • Number of grid cells covered by the spawn zone;
  • Number of need zones precisely associated with the same active unit;
  • Area emphasis for the current schedule period.

No Match

If no area is highlighted, check in this order:

  1. Whether an animal is selected;
  2. Whether the correct species is still selected;
  3. Whether the individual record contains SpawnAreadId;
  4. Whether the map shows a spawn-zone data error;
  5. Whether the built-in DECA snapshot covers the current reserve and species.

When there is no exact match, the app does not substitute the center of the animal distribution or a need-zone location for the spawn zone.

4. Use “Discovered in Save” Need Zones

This mode shows only the need zones the player has discovered in the current save.

Procedure

  1. Keep the target animal selected.
  2. Switch the main map layer to Need Zones.
  3. Select Discovered in Save as the data source.
  4. Inspect the feeding, drinking, and resting points.
  5. Check whether an emphasized area and line appear for the selected animal's active unit.
  6. Hover over an associated point to inspect its species, time period, and group.
  7. Expand Need Zone Explanation below the map to read the match status.

Interpret the Result

  • Association shown: the active unit's path identifier matches a discovered need zone;
  • Cannot associate: the path identifier in the save does not match a discovered area;
  • Other points remain on the map: these are need zones discovered in the current reserve and do not necessarily belong to the selected animal.

5. Use “Full DECA” Need Zones

This mode shows the potential need areas defined for the current species in game resources. The desktop app reads them from a built-in local snapshot and does not need to download the complete DECA data at runtime.

Procedure

  1. Keep the target reserve and species unchanged.
  2. Switch to Need Zones.
  3. Select Full DECA.
  4. Wait for all points to load.
  5. Click the target animal.
  6. Inspect the areas explicitly referenced by its NeedZonePathGuids.
  7. Check the gold emphasis corresponding to the current game period.
  8. Hover over an area to inspect its type, time, AREA number, and active unit.

Important

Full DECA areas are potential areas in the game resources:

  • They do not indicate that the player has discovered them;
  • They do not indicate that an animal is currently in the area;
  • They do not indicate that unreferenced areas belong to the target animal;
  • Only areas matched exactly by path identifier are treated as areas associated with the active unit.

6. Find Animals from a Need Zone

Use this process to answer “Which active units reference this area?”

  1. Select a reserve and species.
  2. Go to Need Zones → Full DECA.
  3. Click the target need zone on the map.
  4. A This Area filter and match count appear on the right.
  5. Inspect the filtered active units and animals.
  6. Click each animal to open its individual record.
  7. Verify NeedZonePathGuids in the technical information.
  8. Clear the This Area filter to restore the complete population.

If clicking an area produces no filtered results, the point may not support reverse mapping, or no active unit of the current species references it.

7. Read the Animal Schedule

After you select an animal, the schedule panel below the map shows:

  • Feeding, drinking, and resting activities;
  • The start and end time of each activity;
  • The activity containing the current game time;
  • The next activity and time remaining;
  • The exact need zones corresponding to the activities.

Recommendations

  1. First check the current game time at the top.
  2. Find the “Current” activity in the schedule panel.
  3. Find the gold-emphasized area of the same type on the map.
  4. Inspect the line drawn from the profile's last position.
  5. Plan an in-game route using fast-travel points and deployed structures.

The schedule is produced by combining game resources and save associations. A game update or missing mapping may affect its display.

8. Read the Distance

When both the profile position and exact associated area have valid coordinates, the map draws a line and shows the distance.

Distance = Straight-line distance in world X/Z coordinates from the profile's last saved position to the center of the associated area

This distance:

  • Is not travel distance along roads;
  • Does not account for mountains, water, or elevation differences;
  • Does not represent the distance from the animal to the area;
  • Is intended only as a reference for route priority.

9. Complete Location Example

Objective: Locate the operating range of a high-scoring male

  1. Select a reserve and species.
  2. Filter sex to male.
  3. Select Score ↓ for sorting.
  4. Click the highest-scoring animal.
  5. Record the active-unit number from the individual record.
  6. Click Spawn Zones and confirm whether SpawnAreadId matches exactly.
  7. Switch to Need Zones → Full DECA.
  8. Inspect the exactly associated area for the current period.
  9. Enable the Fast Travel Points and Deployed Structures landmark layers.
  10. Choose an investigation order based on the line from the profile position and the straight-line distance.
  11. To view only points discovered in the game, switch to Discovered in Save for comparison.

10. Result Interpretation Table

Interface resultCorrect interpretation
Spawn zone highlightedThe active unit's SpawnAreadId exactly matches a resource area
Need zone emphasizedNeedZonePathGuids explicitly references this area
Current area is goldThis associated area corresponds to the current game period
Line and distance shownThe straight-line distance from the profile's last position to the associated area can be calculated
Map has a point but animal is not associatedThe area exists, but there is no explicit path evidence for this animal's active unit
No spawn-zone highlightThe field is missing, the resource is not covered, or the number does not match
No real-time animal pointNormal; a regular save does not provide reliable real-time coordinates
